1. Information We Collect
When you use EcoChat we collect:
- Account data — name, email address, and profile image provided through Clerk authentication
- Conversation data — the messages you send and the AI responses you receive, stored in our database
- Usage data — credit usage counts, model selections, timestamps
- Uploaded files — images and documents you upload to chats, stored in blob storage
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected data to:
- Deliver the EcoChat service and maintain your conversation history
- Track and enforce monthly credit limits
- Calculate and offset the carbon footprint of your usage
- Improve service reliability and diagnose technical issues
We do not use your conversation content to train AI models. We do not sell your data.
3. Third-Party Services
EcoChat uses the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Clerk — identity and authentication management
- Neon — PostgreSQL database hosting
- AI model providers — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (messages are sent to these APIs to generate responses)
- NuxtHub / Cloudflare — blob storage for uploaded files
Each provider operates under their own privacy policy. We share only the minimum data needed to provide the service.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and conversation data for as long as your account is active. You may delete individual chats at any time. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@ecochat.app.
6. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed credentials via Clerk, and role-based database access controls. No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you not to share sensitive personal information in chat messages.
